The Rabbit of Easter
March 25, 2008 by Ileana
I love Easter for lots of reasons… I love that it’s the first springtime holiday. I love that the Mr.’s mom still gives us both Easter baskets, despite the fact that we’re in our 30’s. I love that she doesn’t put a chocolate bunny in my basket because she knows I can’t eat anything cute and bunny shaped. I also love that she doesn’t think there’s anything weird about that. I love that Easter means it’s Cadbury Creme Egg season. And I love my own little tradition of getting up on Easter morning and re-reading my favorite David Sedaris story. I love a good dose of giggles with my morning coffee.
This Easter was an especially good one. Friends of ours were in town to play a show, so we got together with some friends to treat them to a delicious Easter morning brunch. Potato latkes, a hearty salad with apples and almonds, two (!) kinds of quiche, and an apple pie for dessert. Yum. Later we sampled a bit of a tasty home brewed brown ale. (Les and Fawn, don’t worry, I was sure to try a little sip for you…)

Then we sat in their backyard and soaked up the sun. We thought about playing a game of bocce ball, but decided that lounging in the grass sounded like a better idea. Neighbors stopped by to say hello. Next door, kids hunted for Easter eggs in their Sunday clothes. We watched them and listened to Jen and Galen’s chickens cluck quietly in the background.

I held this one and fed her clover and blades of grass. Who knew hens liked to be snuggled and hand fed? I guess they’re not that different from the rest of us girls.
Later we witnessed our own Easter miracle. This hen gave us a blue Easter egg!
Don’t you love her fuzzy sideburns?
Hope your Easter was terrific, my friends. More soon. It’s about time for a garden update. It’s sprout madness over here. xo
